In order to protect Internet user’s privacy the Child Online Protection Act was enacted in 1998. It states that “a website operator must include in a privacy policy, when and how to seek verifiable consent from a parent, and what responsibilities an operator has to protect children’s privacy and safety online” (Bitter and Legacy, 243). This is good since it helps make sure that the site the child is using will be able to protect their personal information.
Students also need to be careful of who they talk to online. Just because their information is not posted, this does not mean they can trust everyone they talk to. The following video gives an example of this:
